Book Review : Beyond Good and Evil

Blurb

Beyond Good and Evil is a comprehensive overview of Nietzsche's mature philosophy. The book consists of 296 aphorisms, ranging in length from a few sentences to a few pages. These aphorisms are grouped thematically into nine different chapters and are bookended by a preface and a poem. While each aphorism can stand on its own, there is also something of a linear progression between aphorisms within chapters and from one chapter to another. Nonetheless, each aphorism presents a distinctive point of view, and even the individual chapter summaries omit a great deal.

My thought

No one knows how to write better than Nietzsche, and this translation is superb.

I always thought that Friedrich Nietzsche's philosophy is somewhat negative and because of that I tried to avoid it as much as I could.

And then one day I decided to give it a try - believe me I am more than glad that I read it. This is a book that is still very modern and some of the parts are applicable to the modern world that surrounds us.

Nietzsche walks that line between genius and insanity like no one else. Beware, it's a hard read. And it's harder yet, once you've really read it, to ever look at your life the same way again.

An in depth look at what Nietzschean philosophy is, there are a good many definitions and views that he develops and does so well.

Nietzsche discuses his philosophy in existential terms. Basically where does art begin and how much is read into by those who perceive it. What is the truth and what is observed. What is the soul? What is reality? How does this relate to the Herd? Does the Herd's perceptions change what it is? Does it matter whether it is the truth that changes something or the perception of that truth

This is a must read for the aspiring Nietzsche fan.
