Book Review : Journey to The Centre of Earth

My rating 4 stars

In this classic tale, a newly-discovered ancient parchment reveals that a secret passage through a volcano extends into the depths of the earth. Three men are hurled into the adventure of their lives as they undertake a journey of geological discovery and terrific danger.

Although it is technically the same book there are two basic translations available. In the US the definitive translation involves a Professor von Hardwigg and his nephew Harry. This translation also adds extra dramatic passages, possibly in an attempt to make it a "better" story. The other, and considered a truer, translation deals with a Professor Lidenbrock and his nephew Axel.

My thought

This book is perhaps the ultimate adventure story, and is wonderfully entertaining and exciting. Jules Verne was a visionary for his time. This book takes you on a fantastic journey to the center of the earth, where strange plants and creatures reside. The characters are great and the story line is definitely enjoyable and fast paced. this book is intelligent and capable enough to satisfy with a thrilling adventure story that we now know could not take place, but is still incredibly fun to read. It has very pristine vocabulary that makes for a smart read. The end is slightly disappointing but as the characters seem fairly content with their adventures, it ends happily enough. It really is definitely worth reading, and great story.
