Set in the Alcott family home, Orchard House, in Concord, Massachusetts. The story follows the lives of four sisters – Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March. Meg is the oldest, and a beauty. She is happy to fall into the role of mother to her sisters when their mother is gone, and seeks to find a good marriage of her own. Jo is tomboyish, hot tempered, and wants little to do with the role of the 18th century woman. She hopes that, one day, she will do something great. Beth is quiet and content no matter the circumstances. She desires to stay at home with her parents and is saddened that her sisters will all grow up and move away from her. Amy is docile, pretty, and somewhat vain. She seeks to better her position in life through a wealthy marriage. As the girls grow up, they find that life is not always what you expect it to be.

My thought

Classic coming of age story. This is a story of families survive and pull together in tough times. this is wonderful example of friendship. The four Marsh girls couldn't be more different but they all know that they will always be there for one another. This is a deep, meaningful friendship among sisters. The characters, the story, the manner of conversation, it all took me to my happy place. It is the journey of four sisters from childhood to adulthood. The trials and tribulations these girls go through might be too obvious to adults but it is a must read for little women.I liked this story because I think the story was very cute and sweet. I liked Beth the most because she is so nice to everyone and so kind. I loved how it was so moving and I felt so sorry for Beth when she caught the disease when she was trying to help.

The book is a well-written classic that will take you back in time. Great book. True lessons for all of us to relate to and learn from.
