Blurb

In Glide, The Prophet’s Revenge, genius inventor Dr. Magigate (the Captain) must confront his shadowy legacy when innocent teen Maddy Langsley is kidnapped by an evil fugitive (the Prophet), Dr. Magigate’s erstwhile foe and lover. Thus begins the Glide Trilogy set in a future world dominated by the miraculous inventions of Dr. Magigate, chief among them Glide which controls gravity.

My opinion

It's the future. But nearly a century ago, civilization was collapsing. Environmental catastrophe, worldwide destitution, and hostile regimes had become the order of the day. People cried out for leaders who could deliver them from their doom. What they got was The Academy…

The FAIR Academy, an elite oligarchy of the wealthy and powerful. Ruling from their fortified capital of Aerome, they sent drone fighters to destroy all who defied their vision. And so, the world continued to fall, drawing its final, ragged breaths.
Then came The Rust. A cybernetic pathogen that raged through human and computer alike.

It was amidst these most dire circumstances that Dr. Domino Magigate, nicknamed ‘The Captain’, made a discovery that changed everything. A discovery greater than fire, greater than the wheel, even greater than fossil fuels…

He called it Glide.

Glide ushered in a new era, defined by restoration and hope. Slowly but surely, the people forgot their old fears.

Michael and Madeleine have grown up in a world run by the silent, clean, affordable technology known as Glide. To them, the tyranny of the Academy is nothing more than ghost stories. But the stories come alive when they meet Samantha Biggs, nicknamed ‘The Prophet’.
Now the ashes of war are being rekindled. Mike and Maddy must prevent The Prophet from finishing the work she began so long ago. But they will not be alone. There is still one man in Seaville who remembers those times. Glide is his legacy. And The Prophet is his destiny.  It’s easy to get confused in this story that combines elements of the Oedipus legend, the Kingdom of Narnia, the Land of Oz and the battles of Star Wars with scientific theories. While story lines merge at the conclusion, a time chart or list of characters would have helped the reader of this lengthy work to navigate from one story line and perspective to another.Besides being the first book in a planned new series, Glide, published in mid-2011, is more than just a novel. Through Glide, Gourgey hopes to kindle—rekindle perhaps—the belief in humanity’s endless capacity to innovate ourselves out of the darker places our desire and self-interest sometimes lead us. That optimism, he says, is the essence of Green Sci Fi, a genre where science is the new magic, both awe-inspiring and perilous.
