High atop a Los Angeles skyscraper, an office Christmas party turns into a deadly cage-match between a lone New York City cop and a gang of international terrorists. Every action fan knows it could only be the explosive big-screen blockbuster Die Hard. But before Bruce Willis blew away audiences as unstoppable hero John McClane, author Roderick Thorp knocked out thriller readers with the bestseller that started it all.

A dozen heavily armed terrorists have taken hostages, issued demands, and promised bloodshed all according to plan. But they haven't counted on a death-defying, one-man cavalry with no shoes, no backup, and no intention of going down easily. As hot-headed cops swarm outside, and cold-blooded killers wield machine guns and rocket launchers inside, the stage is set for the ultimate showdown between anti-hero and uber-villains. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good fight to the death. Ho ho ho!

My opinion
Reading “Nothing Lasts Forever,” the newly re-released 1979 novel the movie “Die Hard” was based on, it’s hard to believe that Roderick Thorp didn’t write it with the specific aim of launching Bruce Willis as a mega-movie star.

I love the Die Hard movies and to read the book was entertaining as well. I found the book thrilling. I loved how the book was written, describing the thoughts and movements Leland.

In the book, Leland is retired. In the movie, the character is named John McClane and is an active member of the NYPD. Leland’s trying to save his daughter, Stephanie. McClane’s rescuing his wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia).

Though Leland/McClane is still the same terrorist-taunting lone wolf turned action hero, “Nothing Lasts Forever” is much darker and more thrilling for it.

Die Hard (The Movie) fans may be intrested in reading this book, but beware, there are some major differences.

There were things I like more in the book and vise versa. However I did not care as much for the ending of the book

I loved the storyline, the premise of good over evil, and one man trying to stop the terrorists in their tracks. All in all, a great read, one I have no hesitation in recommending
