  • Book blurb
  • Agatha Christie’s most ingenious murder mystery, reissued with a striking new cover designed to appeal to the latest generation of Agatha Christie fans and book lovers. The villagers of Chipping Cleghorn ... are agog with curiosity over an advertisement in the local gazette which reads: ‘A murder is announced and will take place on Friday October 29th, at Little Paddocks at 6.30 p.m.’A childish practical joke? Or a hoax intended to scare poor Letitia Blacklock? Unable to resist the mysterious invitation, a crowd begins to gather at Little Paddocks at the appointed time when, without warning, the lights go out....
  • My thought
  • I've always thought Christie did a really effective job of giving readers a flavour for what wartime (and post-war) life was like. I'm glad you brought that point up here because it's something I like about this novel. My favorite thing about the story is that throughout the whole book you have no idea who the murderer is, and you keep wondering and wondering, until you read the end. When I read the ending I was really surprised, because it was so unexpected, and I never would’ve guessed what would happen. Unlike other murder stories, you can’t really figure out the plot by yourself, which makes it even more exciting. A Murder is Announced teaches you to keep investigating everything you’re uncertain about in the world, and keep searching, until you find the answer.
