Title : The Mysterious Affair at Styles
Author : Agatha Christie
Rating : 5/5 stars

Book blurb
The heiress of Styles has been murdered, dying in agony from strychnine slipped into her coffee. And there are plenty who would gain from her death: the financially strapped stepson, the gold digging younger husband, and an embittered daughter-in-law. Agatha Christie's eccentric and hugely popular detective, Hercule Poirot, was introduced to the world in this book, which launched her career as the most famous and best loved of all mystery writers.

My thought
This is one of Christie's earlier books, and the first time we meet the great detective, Hercule Poirot. While on medical leave from the military during World War I, Hastings visits his friend, John Cavendish, at the family manor. When Cavendish's stepmother dies under suspicious circumstances, Hastings' old acquaintance, Poirot, just happens to be in the area and takes on the case.
I read a lot of Agatha Christie's book, especially the Poirot series, and it is because it is fascinatingly awesome. Firstly, Christie's crafts of writing makes every moment vivid in your mind, and her descriptions do not bore the readers unlike most authors. Her characters are also interesting and intriguing, and every character has its own story to be unfolded. Of course, my favorite character is Poirot with his witty personality, but my second favorite will most definitely be Captain Hastings. He is not as smart or brilliant as Poirot, but he is an honest and passionate character. It was very interesting for me to try to put the clues together in order to find the killer, even though my guess was totally wrong, and see how Poirot smartly puts the killer into justice. The language may be a little bit old-fashioned, but that is what makes the book more realistic. I really liked this book, and I will recommend it to the people who like mysteries.
